Enrolments: At Carlton Primary School, we follow the statewide prep enrolment process. Please visit STARTING SCHOOL. This page contains information for families on how to enrol their child in a Victorian government school and outlines the timeframes for submitting Foundation (Prep) enrolment applications for the 2027 school year. School zones

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones.

Students residing in our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address. Our school also has additional capacity available to welcome students who are outside of our school zone.

Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.

Parent payments

Under the Department of Education’s Parent Payments Policy, Victorian government schools are required to provide transparent information to their school community on voluntary parent/carer contributions.

Our school does not request any payments or contributions, and all services are provided at no cost to parents/carers.

If you are interested in enrolling at our school, please download and complete and Enrolment Form / request an Enrolment Form from our school office at carlton.ps@education.vic.gov.au or  9347 6022.

Our school follows the Department of Education’s Enrolment Policy for the enrolment, placement, and transfer of students.

Students who live within the school zone are guaranteed a place at our school. To find out whether you live in zone, visit findmyschool.vic.gov.au. All other applications will be considered subject to available space, and prioritised according to:

  1. students with a sibling at the same permanent address who are attending the school at the same time
  2. all other students in order of closeness of their home to the school.

If you are interested in enrolling at our school, please complete our enrolment expression of interest / complete the Application Form carlton.ps@education.vic.gov.au and send to . If you require a paper form, please contact the school office on 9347 6022.

An enrolment form will be provided when placement is offered.

Foundation (Prep) enrolments

Steps to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) for the 2027 school year

If your child is starting Foundation (Prep) in 2027, you will be able to apply for enrolment at a Victorian government primary school from the start of Term 2, 2026 (Monday 20 April 2026).

What you need to do:

  1. Visit the Find my School website to find your designated neighbourhood school (your local school) for 2027 and other nearby government schools.
  2. Contact a government primary school to book an optional school tour and learn more about the school and the enrolment application process.
  3. Download the Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents and Carers (released in Week 1, Term 2). This pack includes the application form.
  4. The school may also provide you with a copy of the application form to complete or advise if they are using online enrolment.
  5. Submit your enrolment application to the school by Friday 31 July 2026.
  6. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 3 August and Friday 14 August 2026. The letter from the school will include the next steps. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should respond to the offer by Friday 28 August 2026.

Enrolment applications submitted after 31st July 2026 will be processed by the school as they are received, in accordance with the Department’s Placement Policy.

I WANT TO ENROL MY CHILD (Years 1 – 6)

Fantastic! Complete the following steps:

  1. Download & complete the enrolment form:Enrolment forms must be completed, signed and returned to the school office.
  2. Collate the following original documents which will be copied by the school:You will need to give important information about your child, including:
    1. evidence of your child’s date of birth (birth certificate, or, if they were not born in Australia, a passport or travel document such as a visa)
    2. your contact, phone and address details, and that of any other parent, guardian and/or carer
    3. names and contact details of emergency contacts
    4. doctor’s and dentist’s names and phone numbers
    5. Immunisation Status Certificate
    6. health and welfare information
    7. information about the languages your child speaks and hears at home
    8. details of any parenting orders or legal matters to do with the care or safety of your child (service providers are obliged to keep your information private)
    9. if your child will be attending out of hours school care. If they are, a separate enrolment and bookings will need to be made for the days they will attend.
  3. If you need an interpreter to help fill out the application form, the school staff can help organise this for you.
  4. Attend the school with the enrolment form & original documents for submission.

For families arriving from overseas, school entry is determined by the Visa Subclass Number on your child’s Passport. Students unable to enrol directly into the School can enrol via the International Education Division. Before and after school supervision arrangements

Student safety at Carlton Primary School is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: School grounds are supervised at 8:40am C.O.L.A. and soccer pitch.

After school: School grounds are supervised at 3:20pm C.O.L.A. and soccer pitch.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).

Families are encouraged to contact the office on   9347 6022  or refer to carlton.ps@education.vic.gov.aufor more information about the before and after school care facilities available to our school community or if you would like any further information about our student supervision arrangements.
