At Carlton primary we provide teaching and learning within state-of-the art learning spaces and large outdoor play areas where children learn and grow in a safe and supported environment. We are situated within the Carlton Learning Precinct, a “one stop shop” for families. Along with our school, the learning precinct houses City of Melbourne family services and Gowrie Early Learning Centre, providing an exciting model of health and education that services the whole Carlton community.
We have passionate and dedicated teachers and education support staff who are committed to the work that we do here. They are experts at building strong relationships with children and providing high quality instruction, making sure that each child receives just right learning. Along with our great kids, it’s our staff who give the school the positive “vibe” that visitors talk about.
In line with current educational best practice, our school has flexible learning spaces which provide opportunities for children to work in a range of groupings in collaborative and creative ways, better preparing them for secondary school and beyond. In 2019 the school grounds underwent a major landscaping project. Children now enjoy more than a hectare of outdoor space incorporating a sports field, basketball court, bush trails, playgrounds, a dry creek bed, outdoor classroom and expansive sandpit. A luxury for an inner-city school site.
Our award winning COLA (covered outdoor learning area) at the entrance to our school, is the central meeting point for our school community. Apart from use during school hours, it is also used for community events, such as Harmony Day, markets and after-hours sporting competitions.
On a personal note, I would like to introduce myself. I have been the proud principal at Carlton Primary for over a decade. I have had more than thirty years’ experience working in various schools and Department of Education roles. I am committed to issues of social justice and equality of access for all children, within a high-quality government school system. I love the challenges that leading a school brings and always strive to ensure that children and their learning are at the centre of every decision that we make. I want each child and their family to have a successful educational experience while with us and for your whole family to develop a sense of belonging to the school community.
Finally, thank you for taking the time to visit our website and taking the virtual tours. I hope that you will also take the time to visit our school and see firsthand the vibrant learning environment, where each child is engaged and thriving. You will also get the opportunity to meet the wonderful people that make up this exciting educational community.
Welcome to Carlton Primary School!
