Building the Education state at Carlton Primary School

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, The Honourable James Merlino, MP came to Carlton Primary school on June 3rd to formally announce the 10 million dollars allocated for the redevelopment of the school.

James Merlino said “We’re rebuilding Carlton Primary School and giving its students the safe, modern and comfortable classrooms that they need to learn … This major investment will give students a state-of-the-art learning environment and teachers the facilities to continue providing a world-class education.”

In her comments, Carlton Primary Principal Julie Large stated that an independent reviewer noted “that teachers were implementing research based best practice and innovative opportunities for teaching and learning despite the limitations of dated and inflexible learning spaces in our current building.”

Julie Large told the group  “Often teachers from other schools come to Carlton Primary to see the work that we do here and to take ideas back to their own schools. We have a parent community that values education extremely highly. Over more than a decade our school has developed strong partnerships with agencies and organisations to promote a lifelong learning model and to position itself as a centre of excellence for work with newly arrived students and their families. It is therefore long overdue that we match the work that is being undertaken here every day, and our community expectations, with new 21st century technologies and learning spaces. A redevelopment will enable our current work to be further enhanced. It is envisaged that the redevelopment of our existing building, will attract students in increasing numbers from the inner city and surrounds, as well as commuter families travelling into the CBD for work, and then will truly reflect the diversity of inner city Melbourne.”
