Carlton primary school, Melbourne | Victoria
150 Palmerston Street Carlton

Welcome to Carlton Primary School, a partner in the new Carlton Learning Precinct, an integrated education precinct which includes City of Melbourne Family Services and Gowrie Early Learning Centre. The precinct has a common vision which is to support all families to thrive.

Our school offers high quality education. We have fabulous facilities, designed to stimulate collaborative, flexible and creative learning, both indoors and out. Our highly trained educators are passionate about growing student’s learning. Our innovative wellbeing wrap around supports for children and their families are recognised as best practice across the state.

Teaching and Learning

Our co teaching model responds to and stimulates children to be great learners, working flexibly across age groups and abilities. Every child’s learning is targeted to their individual point of need. We call this “Just right learning”. We provide a comprehensive and sequential curriculum, utilising an inquiry approach with a strong focus on literacy, numeracy and indigenous cultural understanding.     A full time speech pathologist, who supports children with their acquisition of language, is an integral member of our educational team.

Our learning spaces

Our school was completely redeveloped in 2018/2019. Working with award winning architects, the redevelopment allows us to make the most of our spaces in really innovative ways. In line with current educational best practice, our learning spaces enable children to work in a range of collaborative and creative groupings.

Our grounds

Our children enjoy more than a hectare of outdoor space, which is unique for an inner city school. Sustainability, nature play and outdoor experiences are central to our educational approach. Our outdoor facilities include a sports field, a covered basketball court, bush trails through extensive indigenous planting, two playgrounds, a dry creek bed, a kitchen garden, an expansive sandpit and a bush classroom.

Having overseen major changes at Carlton Primary in my time here as principal, I am obviously incredibly proud of our school, but why not come and experience it for yourself?

For more information, visit our website, follow us on Instagram and please feel free to make a time for a school tour.
